Making it palatable?
So, how can I tie this video I'm currently watching into this? I know! I learned the trick from a movie
called Werner Beinhart. Just ... pick something from Your life! OK. So ... I'm sobering up and generally
I experience heightened nervousness - mostly over political items and my "average temperature" is rising.
Due to all that I'm also more pumped to produce content for here - and all of that, with just an easy spin,
fits into ... uh ... "this".
Uhm, also ... I wrote something Yesterday, it kindof functions as a segue but ... it's also kind of a non-topic
and I don't think I really wrapped it up properly (Yea ... I ... uh ... [shrugs]) ... and, don't be alarmed,
don't be scared ...
here you go.
But yes. The culture war ... . I mean ... that's not the topic here. It's just the background.
Because ... I don't just want to say things and have them be "common sense" - like I can't possibly owe You
an explanation or such - but all of this "disclaimer/damage control" nonsense ... I feel like we're moving
into an era where we realize that we're not really doing it for anyone because the context we mean to
"address" is really just a fabrication. I mean, the environment isn't real. Real people may be there, but
the whole ... outrage, or anticipated outrage, that encourages these disclaimers is ... it's BS.
Anyway. I did click on a video with the sole intention of disliking it. Then I was surprised by what I saw,
for a moment forgot what I was clicking on ... so surprised I was ... and then it clicked and ... . I can't
tell You how weird it is to expect some bumfuck white basement dweller yapping on about something; And then
You get a well put together eloquent black person calmly asserting the facts I'm yet to hear the reasoning
behind ... it's ... it's disarming. Not gonna lie. Call it racism. Works for me.
I mean, on a sidenote: Like ... cyncially starting to be like racist against Americans ... has thus far
led to this scary side-effect that it's now like ... semi-serious racism. I find it kind of funny tho.
I mean ... I know "not all Americans" and stuff.
So, I can work with that. This person isn't a black dude - he's an American. Probably "that kind" of.
Or not. I mean ... I can write what I've seen so far up to brainrott or just ... growing up. Like ... at a
certain age the person begins to look back at their Younger self and ... the cringe is real. It doesn't
map 1:1 to what I saw so far; But uhm ... it still kind of strikes me as such. I mean, he looks to be in
about that age ... where, given the context, that is certainly a factor to be considered. Then it's also
true that Stranger Things kind of changed from being more Mystery into being a more straightforward
Narrative with a more and more concrete idea of who is who and what is what. And I believe that's really
where the crux is. But simultaneously I don't understand.
Maybe I should watch the video - but I'd be shocked to learn anything outside of my own foregone
conclusions. It virtually never happens. Occasionally ... sure. Actually I don't know.
Uhm ... on another side note: Is it just me? I thought of writing about it while I was in the theatre ...
then I decided not to because I didn't have the nerve to ... dive into this whole shitshow of a topic again;
But now I'm kind of here anyway ... so; Is it a thing? When You're in theatre there's this one group of
people that'll like ... low key make advertisement for Disney? They're the loudest in the room, they laugh
in uncanny places ... like; ... Almost like ... they think the movie is funny and You're angry. But then
You watch the movie and then the movie is funny and You laugh ... and now You feel like You're "with them".
Their noise further is dissonant on everything ... but when the Disney stuff comes up it's "Synchronicitized".
Is it just me?
I mean, I came out of the movie ... well, ignoring all about the movie, thinking that this baby Yoda is kind
of cute actually. And it's really just this mindfuck that implanted this idea in my head.
And so here I am now feeling, once again, that You just can't give them ... even an inch. They're ravenous.
And that's the part that actually gives me hope.
I mean, the moment You lose focus on this insidious stuff going on ... it all kind of evaporates and because
You're mind lets go of the prejudice (though it's really just the very real patterns leaving an impression)
- You're re-opening Yourself to all of that stuff that You just previously painstakingly had to exile from
Your system.
And in that state ... it seems like we're all hopelessly lost. Like everyone's our enemy; No, sorry ...
YOUR enemy ... IN PARTICULAR. Maybe. And in those moments I feel like ... the best hope is like some old
school terrorism. Like, a handful of people claiming to speak for the entire rest while doing acts of
violence that may or may not hit the right targets. Little changes for the better. And if that's the best
we could do; I'd be all in for it.
But if we can acknowledge that it's more like ... a singular threat that's coming from a singular entity;
Regardless of how many faces it may obscure itself behind; It starts to look more manageable because we
can direct our anger and frustration at this "comprehensive thing" - rather than this ... obscure "they"
and "everything".
Anyway. The video on mind is like 4 hours long, has a 15 minute intro with a 3 minute ad segment (I checked)
- and all I learned is: He doesn't like Stranger things 5; And that because of all the buzzwords we've heard.
It's insulting to our intelligence, it's bad writing, it's ... I don't know. All the buzzwords. I've had my
Bingo card complete and he yet kept going. Which is really where I started to see beyond the color of their
skin. 15 minutes in and all I heard were buzzwords. And that he has another 2 hour video trying to explain
that Season 4 was bad ... and on a sidenote: Why. I mean - I noticed that being already like: 2 hours? While
waiting for a comprehensive 'why' to all of the empty assertions - so that I noticed specifically that he
didn't say why ... but as an after the fact addition.
So, 15 minutes in and I'm PRIMED. Like, a reasonable critic could have delivered most of their argument in
that timeframe, leaving the rest for sidenotes. And what's up with that 3 minute ad? Like ... whaaaaat?
Anyway I've started to hate these "in video ads" - because next to the actual adds and an understanding of
what YouTube and the Internet; And consuming either; actually is - Politically speaking ... it makes me feel
like I'm being had.
And so, here's the thing. A bit over a year ago ... I kind of left a note here that kind of ... did a thing
that I from then on really didn't engage with ... and if it's a thing ... we're going into part 2 and You
know ... and if You don't then ... just ignore this.
It is what it is.
But yea. I mean - I wonder. If it's so objectively bad ... why is it so hard to explain that? And I suppose
that a part of this (my) reaction is just the bias speaking. You know what I mean. We tend to do it, we kind of
don't mean it, but on occasion ... our mouths really hike ahead of our brains and that's ... just that.
And then there's the internet ... . It takes that ... and like amplifies it. So, it's almost like the Internet
is this balloon ... accumulating all our hot air until it eventually lifts off.
Says I as someone who hated the Force Awakens, didn't watch the other two and will go out of their way to hate
on the whole thing in a heartbeat. Well ... yea.
So ... continuing on my quest to determine the Sex of the Turtle, I'm now 20 minutes into the video ... . He
didn't like the beginning of Season 5 because it undermines EV-ERY-THING (important emphasis) that Season 4
worked towards. And yea, let's call that "anticipation bias". It always surprises me how we have all these
high concept terms; Giving the critics this appearance of being educated and super serious and sophisticated
and stuff ... but it doesn't seem to me like they know what they mean.
And I mean, if You suffer from anticipation bias ... that's a red flag actually. It's like ... the primeordial
sin of movie watching. And over the years I've seen enough to leave me under the impression that we "learned
that". And so they'll start their criticisms yapping over how YES ... THEY KNOW THAT ... which totally tells
me that everything from here on out is completely trustworthy! ... [very human smiley face]
"nudge nudge, wink wink" - in case You missed it.
Then he mentions the scene where Will gets plugged into the Vecna Matrix and he says that this scene isn't
of importance for the rest of the show. And now I know that this video isn't for people who've seen Season
5. And I guess ... that's really where we have to leave this topic aside and move on to the matters of
Capitalism that underpin this whole situation.
I mean, it's not an important scene. It's not like the later scenes would have made less sense if we didn't
get like a refresher (let it be a humble, subliminal retcon for the sake of narration) - but it is in all
actuality kind of a central part of the plot, right? I mean, it's not THE plot, but it's Will's part in it.
Or was he referring to the action sequence where he ran from the Demigorgon? Even if, that scene definitely
makes narrative sense as Will's relationship with Vecna's hijinx is ... again ... "The Plot". His part of
it.
Uhm oops. But yea. I suppose the target audience for a lot of this stuff are poor people. People who can't
afford a good gaming PC, or a game that isn't Free to Play, or a Netflix subscription or ... a trip to the
cinema. It's a whole alternate reality of content that really just feeds people with dissent and negativity
over things they know nothing about. And I must low key credit MauLer - because ... while he's virtually
in the center of this critique of mine; He noped out of producing content like this eventually (I think) and
his take on the Star Wars Sequels is a very well put together compilation of the frustration of a Star Wars
fan that really didn't like the Sequels.
For "facts" or "feelings" kind of reasons.
But like TJ Kirk before him and Iron Man before that ... all it takes is ONE to show how something is DONE
and You can expect a little revolution of sorts.
And so ... what is my role here? Because obviously ... someone, somewhere, within all this is like crying
out for help and justice. I feel. And sometimes it's the fans, sometimes it's the artists. And sometimes
things are just fine ... and then we don't know what others talk about anymore. Well ...
Yea ... I guess ... I can leave it at that. ...
